Cabinet Affairs

The ESDC Cabinet Affairs team works to provide timely advice to portfolio Ministers, senior management, and program leads with respect to Cabinet business. Cabinet Affairs is composed of three functions that collectively achieve these objectives: the Cabinet Document Control Function, the Cabinet Briefings Function, and the Cabinet Affairs Function.

The Cabinet Document Control Function tracks and monitors the use and distribution of all Cabinet documents. Documents may be loaned to programs on an as-needed basis by the Cabinet Document Controller.

The Cabinet Briefings Function prepares Cabinet committee briefings to support portfolio Ministers. This function coordinates ESDC input from branches and programs to include any considerations for the ESDC portfolio regarding Cabinet proposals led by other government departments, in addition to preparing briefing materials in support of Cabinet retreats.

The Cabinet Affairs Function provides guidance on the development of Memoranda to Cabinet and facilitates the ESDC approval process. This function is the primary point of contact for lead programs as they develop Memoranda to Cabinet and other related Cabinet documents. Cabinet Affairs works with program leads to prepare MC critical paths, organize departmental kick-off meetings, hold interdepartmental meetings, liaise with Central Agencies, provide templates, and oversee the final MC approval process.

To facilitate greater access to guidance documents and templates linked to Cabinet Affairs processes, key documents have been provided below.
