Ergonomic Adjustment (In-person and Virtually)

Occasionally employees will continue to experience aches or discomfort after reviewing the available self-help tools and making adjustments to their workstations and/or workspace. Trained Ergonomic Coaches are available to assist employees with additional guidance on adjusting and setting up their workstation and/or workspace and providing basic ergonomic recommendations, based on ergonomic standards.

Refer to the Procedures on Requesting an Ergonomic Workstation Adjustment for details on requesting an ergonomic adjustment.

Did you know ... trained Ergonomic Coaches are able to provide virtual ergonomic consultations to employees who are working remotely?

  • Who should request an ergonomic adjustment?

After reviewing the self-help tools and making minor adjustments to their workstations and/or workspaces, an ergonomic adjustment may be requested for any employee:

    • who is unsure of proper workstation setup after self-adjustment; or
    • whose aches or physical discomfort continue to persist after reviewing the self-help tools.

Employees with specific functional limitations may also benefit from an ergonomic adjustment.

  • What do I do if an employee continues to experience pain or discomfort after an ergonomic adjustment has been performed?

There will be circumstances where an employee continues to experience pain or discomfort even after making self-adjustments in accordance with the Self-Adjustment Tools and after the performance of an ergonomic adjustment. In some cases, the employee may have a specific medical condition or out-of-the-average physiological characteristics.

If the pain or discomfort has not been resolved using the self-adjustment tools and the services of an ergonomic coach, it may be necessary to undertake an ergonomic assessment. However, an ergonomic assessment must be supported by a medical indication.

Refer to Ergonomic Assessment for further instructions.
