1.1 Background

This step-by-step roadmap was designed to establish a consistent practice for purchasing furniture, ensure adherence to the Interior Design Standards (IDS), accessibility standards and codes, use of mandatory furniture Workspaces Supply Arrangements (SA), stewardship of assets and compliance with persons with disabilities.

Establishing this level of consistency is integral to meeting the Department's commitment to sound stewardship, value for money and service excellence, ensures adherence to National Standards as it pertains to design and utility, and provides helpful links to tools and resources.

More specifically this guide highlights the importance of seeking Chief Financial Officer Branch (CFOB), Real Property Asset Management (RPAM) approval in advance of all furniture procurement activities, regardless of whether or not Duty to Accommodate (DTA) applies and regardless of value.

1.2 RPAM Strategy

CFOB RPAM is responsible for facilitating the acquisition of space, fit-up of space with a view to ensuring the maintenance of a healthy and safe workplace for ESDC employees across the country. RPAM works in close collaboration with each business line and respective employees to ensure the provision of appropriate space, furniture, and equipment is adapted to the work that is carried out respectively.
