Stewardship of Information and Workplace Behaviours (SIWB) Learning Path for New Employees

Safeguarding Information is Everyone's Business

As part of our department’s public commitment to maintain the security of our systems and to protect the personal information of our clients and colleagues, all ESDC employees are required to maintain valid certification for the Stewardship of Information and Workplace Behaviours (SIWB).

SIWB certification is part of the broader Workplace Effectiveness Program, which is mandatory training for all new employees to safely manage the information and assets of our department. The program addresses five topics:

  1. departmental security;
  2. values and ethics;
  3. information technology security;
  4. information management;
  5. privacy and access to information.

Certification is valid for two years.

The initial SIWB certification involves six courses and a final test that are mandatory for all new employees, including casual, term, indeterminate staff, students and contractors.

Each eLearning course within the program is designed to help new staff to understand their responsibilities as public servants for safeguarding departmental resources and the personal information of employees and clients.

How do I Access my Initial Certification?

If this is the first time that you will access the new ILMS/Saba system, please follow these instructions (PDF, 270 KB) to set up your password.

If you have already accessed your ILMS/Saba account for other learning, you may return to the system directly, log in and access the Workplace Effectiveness Program under My Learning or by searching the learning catalogue for the program.

If you have any trouble accessing ILMS/Saba, please contact the National Service Desk.

How do I Recertify if my Certification has Expired?

You will be expected to recertify every 24 months. When you are three months away from your certification expiring, ILMS/Saba will send you a reminder by email. Please follow these recertification instructions when your certification expires.
