What’s new in classification

Fast Track classification was officially launched on April 1st. During the month of March, we met with several management committees to present and explain the changes to this initiative. We also did a special bulletin that was shared with all the Business Management Services (BMS) offices. We have updated Classification & Organizational Design on the iService and the HRSC portal to reflect the changes and add new templates.

We continue to look for innovative and effective ways to be more efficient.

The updated org charts will be produced at the beginning of the next fiscal year, for the entire department and will be used by the classification advisors only. In addition, we are also patiently waiting for a tool that auto generates org charts.

"Digital" is the new way of thinking in classification. All portal request are now digital except for the change of reporting relationships. For the past months, we have been working to reduce paper files.

IT mapping towards TBS CS generics is at our doorsteps. Phase I will be implemented in May, 2019 for the straightforward ones, after which Phase II will begin, where job descriptions may have to be written.

In March, we began data entry for the PSDC grievance. We started with the Atlantic region and will finish all the regions in May.

Classification grievance: the union withdrew 23 grievances (non-representation).

By May of this year, all classification advisors will have received training from the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (OCHRO) on the new PA & CT standard.

For the year 2018-2019, we have reduced the number of job codes from 1934 to 1292, which represents a 33% reduction.

What’s coming up in the next bulletin

  • A semi-annual review of positions vacant for more than 2 years will take place at the beginning of 2019-2020 fiscal year. The management of vacant positions is also an exercise that will help us through the various upcoming conversions (PA-IT-CT).
  • A new page will be added to the iService with relevant information on our National Work Description Bank (NWDB) to assist clients/managers in their search.
  • Official languages are slowly making their way into classification. While the transition is being made, the classification will process requests for the profile changes on vacant positions.
  • The implementation of CS generics at IITB.
  • We will integrate AS-02s into our structure with the PE managers to assist in several projects and assist them with the administrative level.
  • We will have completed the data entry for the 1640 positions affected by the PSDC grievance.
  • Nadine will make several presentations to the various committees for the future conversions and seeking endorsement the approach proposed by senior management.
