Why not get a jump on your ESDC Essential Training now? The summer months are often a good time to catch up on important training before the hectic return of autumn.
The Essential Training Curricula (ETC) is an essential part of helping us update the knowledge and skills we need to keep pace with the changing needs of Canadians and our colleagues.
Curricula are now organized by completion deadline (employees) and themes (managers and executives) to help you plan your training completion with your workload.

You have come to the right place! There are so many learning options for employees, who want to work on skills and competencies to help them progress in their careers. Why not check out Competency based learning, which has a wide range of self-paced activities to help develop certain competencies, or perhaps participate in a micro-mission, which are tasked based developmental opportunities to showcase your skills. Also browse through Saba and the Canada School of the Public Service for lots of other web-based offerings. Don’t forget to include all of your learning in your Performance Agreement discussions.

Reconciliation, Relationships and Treaty 11 Centenary
Date: July 7, 2021

Treaty 11 was signed one hundred years ago. It is the last of the numbered treaties in Canada. It was signed between the Crown and representatives of the Dehcho, Tłı̨chǫ, Sahtu and Gwich'in Peoples in 1921 with an adhesion signed in Fort Liard in 1922. Covering 950,000 km2, Treaty 11 covers most of the Mackenzie District in the Northwest Territories. The signing of Treaty 11 was a watershed event that cemented a relationship between the Crown and many Indigenous Peoples living in the Northwest Territories.
On July 7, Dene National Chief Norman Yakeleya will speak about Treaty 11, relationships with the Crown and the treaty's legacy of change and reconciliation.

This facilitated workshop will allow participants to experience a team check-in exercise that explores each person’s current mental/emotional state in relation to their work. In an almost entirely virtual work environment, maintaining connection with staff (as a manager) or with colleagues (as a team member) is more important than ever. This tool is for all participants to be used individually (to pause and self-reflect) and at the beginning of team meetings.

An organization’s culture is founded by the values, beliefs and assumptions held by that group’s members. These inform expectations and cues for appropriate behaviour and set the tone for an organization.
When an organization has an unhealthy culture, employees can struggle with things like stress, lack of well-being and distrust. Worst of all a negative culture can undermine the effectiveness of programs and policies put in place to support staff. The goal of this presentation is to explore some of the assumptions that can make or break a workplace culture.

This facilitated, interactive workshop will teach participants to take the pulse of their current mental/emotional state in relation to their work using a simple infographic. Participants will then learn how to use the infographic to spark ‘real’ conversations and build trust among team members.

Over the past year, ESDC’s workforce has shown resilience as we have collectively adapted to our new and evolving environments. However, did you know that resilience can be strengthened intentionally? In fact, it is present in everyone, and with repeated practice, is a set of skills we can continue to develop as individuals, teams, and organizations. Come join us to explore the Resilience Gym on iService where you will find a suite of tools, videos, daily practices, and live sessions that will help build your resilience ‘muscles’. Choose where to focus from activities in six resilience circuits: self-awareness, optimism, mental agility, self-regulation, character strength, and connection.
