Message from the Senior Leadership Team and Champion of The Student Network

On behalf of Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and from all of us personally, we would like to welcome you to the department.

You are joining a great organization that is committed to excellence in everything we do, and most importantly, to serving Canadians. You most likely know that our department has lots of employees (over 28 000), and has locations across Canada. Senior management team looks forward to meeting you (either in person or virtually) over the course of your term here with us.

We recognize that our people are what make us a high-performing, world-class public service organization. Since 2018, our department was named one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers, one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People (2020) and one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers. These significant achievements are because of our hardworking and dedicated managers and employees. Now you are part of this great organization, and are on your way to making your contribution.

We are extremely proud to support opportunities for our students to develop the skills and experience needed to succeed and to grow, in order to become our future leaders. Students make important contributions to the public service by bringing energy, creativity and unique ideas to help us serve Canadians.

All of our executives are committed to a healthy, respectful, inclusive and harassment free work environment and to providing an enriching work and learning experience for you. You will be invited to orientation sessions and training opportunities for your professional development. You will also meet with senior management who will organize student networking activities to help you feel supported and connected.

Finally, we are committed to providing you with meaningful work, clear expectations and regular feedback on your performance to enhance your personal and professional development.

You are an important member of our team and we greatly value your work, thoughts and opinions. We encourage you to bring forward any questions, suggestions and new ideas to your Manager, your Peer Mentor or your Student Ambassador during your employment with our department.

Once again, welcome to ESDC and we hope you enjoy your term with us!
