Design Sprint for Official Languages Learning

Transcript

Over the past two days we held our Design Sprint, a first for College@ESDC. During those two days, we not only tested the Design Thinking methodology but identified solutions to improve second language learning.

Communication is so fundamental and we’ve got an opportunity here, collectively, to start to talk about the oral exam, but not only the oral exam, but also language, bilingualism, official languages in general.

Much of this will take action and I think that’s different than just having a conversation about "what do you think could be better?" I think this is really about what will be better and how we can improve.

So, today we wanted to learn about learners’ experience regarding second language learning.

What part of their experience was good, what part was bad, and what kind of experience it was.

During our discussions, this community of 50 participants came up with more than 600 ideas, some of which were chosen for pilot projects, so we can really explore different possibilities.

There will also be three 3 winners, the 3 winning teams, who will have been able to present and defend their idea. Not only will they receive a medal, but they will have the pleasure of seeing their idea become reality in a project, an initiative that will be carried out in 2018–2019.

For me to see this, to feel that energy and to leave with all of those ideas, gives me tremendous energy and hope, and I’m positive that the coming months will be filled with accomplishments in this regard.

I therefore want to thank all participants for their many innovative ideas, which will enable us to take second language learning to the next level. Thank you.
