Secure Fax / COMSEC Notifications

ESDC and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) are presently using a shared protected domain that enable users to send and receive Protected fax communications up to the Protected B level when using* the Admiral SC5100 and Certifax SC3102 series of data encryptor.

* Both the Sender and Receiver must use an encryption device at the time of the transmission.

These devices will be set to operate by default on the “Protected” domain. This configuration means that all outgoing fax transmissions will be encrypted by default within the ESDC domain. Users will be required to manually enter the operation command code to transmit a fax in the “Clear” domain, as described in the instructions (see the link below).

Sending and Receiving with the CRA:

Users will be required to manually enter the operation command code to transmit a fax on the “ProtectedCRA domain, as described in the instructions (see the link below).

Important Note: Only a number of these encryption devices are currently deployed within the CRA. Therefore, departmental offices that need to exchange sensitive information (up to the Protected B classification) with the CRA will be required to contact the Department COMSEC Officers (DCO) and provide the location and fax number of the CRA office with which it intends to communicate if unsure that an encryption device is installed and functional. The DCOs will request the confirmation from the CRA and will advise accordingly.
