Special Investigations Unit (SIU)

About Us

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is a service under the Director, Corporate Security and Internal Investigations and the Director General of the Internal Integrity and Security (IIS) Directorate within the Integrity Services Branch.

The Director General of IIS is also the Chief Security Officer and is responsible for conducting administrative investigations within Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) - including Service Canada and the Labour Program.

The SIU within IIS conducts administrative investigations into circumstances surrounding an event or an allegation of employee wrongdoing and/or inappropriate behavior.Wrongdoing is defined as any action whereby an individual or group of individuals contravene an Act, a Regulation, a departmental or Treasury Board policy, directive, standard, a departmental procedure as well as the Departmental Code of Conduct.

The purpose of an administrative investigation is to establish, document and analyze all the relevant facts to allow management to make an informed decision as to possible remedial actions.

The SIU plays an essential role in protecting our employees, the department, and in upholding the values and ethics of the Government of Canada and the integrity of our client service programs.
