How do I make tele phone calls with my new VoIP telephone?

1. Internal Calls

If you are dialling within your own internal office will you need to dial the 10 digit telephone number of the person you are trying to reach?

Yes. For example – your co-worker is on the same floor, with a telephone number of 819-654-1000; if you wish to speak with your co-worker you would dial the entire 10 digit telephone number, 819-654-1000.

You also have the following options available:

2. External Calls

How do HRSDC staff reach me if they are located in another building?

HRSDC staff, who have not yet received VoIP telephones, would reach you as if calling an external caller for their building. For example (if they currently dial '8' + the number for an external telephone number, they would dial '8' + the 10 digit number).

3. Long Distance

How do I call HRSDC staff in a HRSDC office that is long distance?

If you are dialling an external office that is located outside of your province and / or considered long distance , you will need to dial the 1 + plus the 10 digit telephone number, for example – 1-709-555-1234.

4. Emergency Calls

How do I make an emergency call – i.e. 911?

There has been no change in the existing emergency telephone numbers at this time. You would dial the same way as you have done in the past. You can get used to reaching Emergency services by dialling 911 directly. However, if you were able to dial 9-911 in the past, it will work as well.
