Timeline

1. Filing a complaint
Within 15 days of the date on which the notice of the appointment or proposed appointment is received

2. Exchange of Information
Within 15 days of the date on which the notice of the appointment or proposed appointment is received

3. Allegations
Within 25 days from the date of acknowledgement of receipt of the complaint from the Executive Director of the Board

4. Deputy Head Reply
Within 15 days of receiving allegations

5. Reply from other parties
Within 10 days of receiving reply from the respondent

6. Mediation
Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process that promotes open and respectful communication with the assistance of a mediator.

7. Settlement Conference
A settlement conference allows the parties to discuss the strengths and weakness of their case with the assistance of a Board member. It differs from mediation in that it is a mandatory, evaluative process and is chaired by a Board member.

8. Pre-Hearing Conference
Allows the Board to deal with procedural issues and technical questions before the hearing, serves to avoid delays and may assist with the resolution of some issues before the hearing.

9. Hearing
A single Board member presides over hearings and makes a determination on complaints based on written submissions, oral presentations, or both.
