Validation of Canadian Citizenship

Validate Canadian Citizenship* for any appointment from an external advertised or external non-advertised process as well as student hires.

Who can validate the Canadian citizenship?

Any employee designated by the staffing sub-delegated manager can verify the proof of Canadian citizenship on his/her behalf.

Note: The staffing sub-delegated manager is accountable for the integrity of the staffing process and must ensure that the designated person has the required knowledge to properly perform the verification on his/her behalf.

How to validate citizenship?

The candidate can provide a clear copy of their citizenship documentation in person, by video-technology (i.e., skype) or by e-mail.

The birth certificate, Canadian passport or other accepted documentation must be validated and a confirmation** of the verification must be submitted to HR via the HRSC Portal. The confirmation of the verification can be an e-mail, a paper note, a note in the HRSC Portal or the Attestation Form Template (DOCX, 518 KB). For student employment, simply check the appropriate box when you submit your request in the HRSC Portal.

Note: Once a candidate meets the definition of veteran, no further validation is required concerning citizenship.

* Validating Canadian citizenship does not mean that a non-Canadian cannot be appointed after preference has been applied.

** Copies of proof of Canadian citizenship are not submitted in the HRSC portal or by e-mail to HR. All copies of citizenship documentation must be deleted once the verification is finalized.
