Second Language Evaluations

The Public Service Commission's Personnel Psychology Centre (PPC) is responsible for developing and overseeing the administration of second language evaluations (SLE) in the Federal Public Service. SLEs are used to confirm an employee’s ability to communicate in their second official language (English or French). Note that a person’s ability to communication in their first official language is not assessed using SLEs, it is assessed by the hiring manager.

SLEs are available for all types of requests (e.g. staffing actions in relation to bilingual positions, establishing language training requirements, activation of the bilingualism bonus, etc.)

To schedule an SLE for an employee or candidate:

Detailed information for managers and employees on SLEs is available on the Public Service Commission’s Second language evaluation Website.
