2021 Deputy Ministers' Awards of Excellence (DMAE)

The call for nominations for the Deputy Ministers’ Awards of Excellence is now closed.

The 2021 DMAE will include accomplishments for the period of April 1, 2020, through March 31, 2021.

Since the 2019 review of the DMAE process, Branches and Regions have aligned their ADM Awards of Excellence with those of the DMAE.

Therefore, it is important to note that the 2021 call for nominations will include both the DMAE and ADM Awards of Excellence.

Roles and Responsibilities

Branch/Regional Recognition Coordinators

Branch/Regional Recognition Coordinators are responsible for:

  • Providing advice on the DMAE nomination process and required documentation;
  • Receiving and reviewing nominations, identifying supporters and ensuring that the nomination is complete;completed nominations and then reviewing the nominations, the identification of supporters and reviewing to ensure completeness;
  • Coordinating and managing their respective internal selection process;
  • Ensure that the Assistant Deputy Minister has reviewed and approved the selected nominations;
  • Submitting to the ESDC National Engagement and Recognition team (NERT) by Friday June 25, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. (PDT).

ESDC’s National Engagement and Recognition Team (NERT)

The ESDC National Engagement and Recognition Team is responsible for:

  • Managing the overall Deputy Minister Awards of Excellence as well as the nomination process;
  • Providing advice guidance and support to Branch/Regional Recognition Coordinators;
  • Reviewing nominations received from the Branch/Regional Recognition Coordinators;
  • Preparing documentation for the DMAE Review Board;
  • Acting as a secretary to the DMAE Review Board;
  • Preparing final documents for Deputy Ministers’ approvals.

DMAE Review Board

The DMAE Review Board - which consists of the five (5)Deputy Ministers, the Human Resources Services Branch ADM and the two Recognition Co-Champions (ADM level) - is responsible for:

  • Reviewing the ADM approved retained nominations from all Branches and Regions; 
  • Presenting and discussing nominations with the Deputy Ministers;
  • Submitting the approved recipients to the ESDC NERT.

Deputy Ministers

  • Deputy Ministers approve the recipients of the DMAE and select nominations worthy of commendation.
