Brief Description of Life Experience related to Mental Health:

I completed my Social Work Degree in 2015 at the age of 23. Throughout my time at the University of Regina, I organized and facilitated a mental health information session for faculty and staff, initiated the Mental Health Action Committee, and educated Kinesiology and Nursing students about eating disorders.

Before joining Service Canada, I worked for a local non-profit where I co-facilitated a depression and anxiety support group. I joined Service Canada in August 2016 as a Payment Services Officer, and I became a Service Canada Benefits Officer in March 2017.

I have lived with and through anorexia, depression, chronic headaches, chronic fatigue and a visual impairment. I began my journey to anorexia recovery in 2012. Throughout my recovery journey, I have learned many important lessons including knowing when to ask for help, having someone to talk to when I needed support, and celebrating every victory – no matter how big or small. I understand how to navigate a complex healthcare system, and how to advocate for the services I need. I recognize the strain that chronic illness can put on friendships.

While the challenges life has thrown at me were overwhelming in the moment, I have come to learn that they have equipped me to help others realize the joy that comes with overcoming adversity and struggles.
