Grievance Resolution Process

It is normal for disagreements to arise in the workplace. The grievance process exists to provide an orderly process for dealing with and resolving grievance in the workplace.

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) pertaining to grievances are intended to guide delegated managers in dealing with grievances. They provide general information about the roles and responsibilities of each party involved in the grievance process, as well as specific information on the different types of grievances. Sample letters and templates provided below will assist managers at different stages of the grievance process.

Although excluded and unrepresented employees can also grieve in accordance with the Public Sector Labour Relations Act, the FAQs were developed with represented employees in mind.

Managers and employees are encouraged to consider different options to resolve their workplace conflict. The informal conflict management system is an alternative to the formal grievance and complaint processes, and offers an interest-based approach to resolve issues at the lowest level possible. Employees and Managers can seek support from the Office of Informal Conflict Management (OICM).
