Elections for the Executive Committee of the Employees with Disabilities Network (EwDN)

The Employees with Disabilities Network (EwDN) is conducting an electronic election process to fill thirteen (13) National Executive Committee positions for a two-year (2) duration.

Important Dates

Nominations period: from November 2, 2021 at 12:00 am to November 16, 2021 at 11:59 pm (Eastern Time). – Extended to November 29, 2021 at 11:59 pm (Eastern Time).

Elections: December 8 at 12:00 am (Eastern Time) to December 12 at 11:59 pm (Eastern Time). - The new dates for the Voting Period are now January 13 from 12:00 am (Eastern Time) to January 16, 2022 11:59 pm (Eastern Time).

  • Eligibility

    Membership to Employees with Disabilities Network (EwDN) is voluntary and open to all ESDC employees who share the common goal of a diverse and inclusive workplace however, only members of the EwDN who identify as being an employee with a disability can run for an executive position.

    You must also be a member of the EwDN to be eligible to cast a ballot.

  • Executive Committee Positions

    Positions available for election are:

    1. One (1) Co-Chair
    2. One (1) Secretary
    3. One (1) Communication officer
    4. Two (2) Atlantic Regional Representatives
    5. Two (2) National Capital Region Representatives
    6. Two (2) Ontario Regional Representatives
    7. Two (2) Quebec Regional Representatives
    8. Two (2) Western Canada and Territories Regional Representatives

    Note: Chair positions will now be full-time and will be appointed following a micro-mission process in collaboration with the respective Network Champion and the Network. As a result, the EwDN Chair position will be subject to micro-mission process this winter.

  • Key Dates and Activities

    Here are the principal milestones of the election process with anticipated timelines:

    • Candidacy Submission Period: November 2 to 16, 2021 - Extended to November 29, 2021
    • Campaign Period: November 24 to December 7, 2021 - New dates: December 6 to December 17, 2021
    • Voting Period: December 8 to 12, 2021 - New dates: January 13 to January 16, 2022
    • Appeal Period: December 17 to 23, 2021 - New dates: January 24 to 28, 2022
  • Mandate

    The Employees with Disabilities Network (EwDN) is an employee-led forum for all ESDC employees across the country. The mandate of the Network is to:

    • Raise awareness about relevant topics to the persons with disabilities community.
    • Support the building and sustaining of a welcoming, inclusive and representative ESDC.
    • Contribute in breaking down barriers that inhibit the full participation of persons with disabilities members within ESDC.
    • Serve as a consultative body for departmental initiatives.
  • Application Process

    If you are interested to submit your candidacy, please provide us with the following information:

    • Application and Authorization Form
      • Complete the Application and Authorization Form. Please note that you must have the support of your immediate supervisor.
    • Biography
      • Submit a biography of no more than one hundred and fifty (150) words in Word format, which explains why you should be elected.
      • If you wish to add a photograph of yourself with your biography, please complete the Consent and Release form in order to respect the Privacy Notice and to grant us the right to publish it.
      • You can also choose to add an image to your biography. In order to respect the copyrights, make sure you have the proper authorizations.
      • The candidate's biography's will be posted on the Employees with Disabilities Network (EwDN) page.
    • Experience Required Form
      • Please complete the Required Experience Form and obtain the required signatures.
      • Your acknowledgement of experience may come from a former manager, former colleague, current manager, current colleague, etc.

    In order to be considered, you must send your biography and the completed forms to the following general box na-diversite-ee-diversity-gd@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on November 16, 2021. - Extended to November 29, 2021 by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time).

    Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that your application is completed and supporting documents are received by the deadline. Candidates that do not respect the deadline or has incomplete documentation will not be considered further.

    A confirmation message will be sent to the candidates to confirm that their application has been received by the Diversity and Inclusion Team.

  • Voting Period

    Voting will take place from December 8 at 12:00 am (Eastern Time) to December 12 at 11:59 pm (Eastern Time). - New dates: January 13 from 12:00 am (Eastern Time) to January 16, 2022 at 11:59 pm (Eastern Time).

    The votes will be collected electronically, and further details on the voting process will be sent out in a separate email to all eligible voters.

  • Appeal Period

    The appeal period is of a duration of five (5) business days and will be open from December 17 at 12:00 am (Eastern Time) to December 23 at 11:59 pm (Eastern Time). - New dates: January 24 from 12:00 am (Eastern Time) to January 28, 2022 at 11:59 pm (Eastern Time).

Election Officer

Ramanan Jegatheeswaran was chosen by the members of the Executive Committee of the Employees with Disabilities Network (EwDN) to be the Election Officer for the 2021 elections.
The responsibilities of the Election Officer are:

  • provide support to the Diversity and Inclusion team and the Network Champion;
  • answer questions about the election process and the network;
  • contribute in the nomination, election and appeal reports;
  • ensure integrity and respect of ESDC Code of Conduct throughout the election process.
