Record of Employment

A Record of Employment (ROE) is a record of your insurable earnings during your employment and is used by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to establish your eligibility and the amount of EI benefits. EI claims are established from the date of application, therefore you should apply for benefits as soon as possible.

A ROE will be electronically transmitted to Service Canada. In the event you’d like to make a claim for employment insurance, this information is required in order to establish your eligibility and level of benefits. Information about applying for Employment Insurance benefits can be obtained online at Service Canada or from your local Service Canada office.

Important: If your ROE is delayed, you can use a printed copy of your last pay stub when applying for EI benefits. If you wait more than four (4) weeks after your last day of work to apply, you may lose benefits.

Note: A paper copy of the ROE is no longer provided to the employee. Should you still wish to view and print a copy, you can do so by visiting "Access My Service Canada Account" on the Service Canada website.
