Information to consider before you proceed:

  • Delegated managers must establish the language requirements and/or linguistic profile of positions in their respective areas by implementing:
  • The manager must provide a written justification when modifying the language requirements of a position and/or the linguistic profile of a bilingual position. The justification should include the duties of the position for which communication in the second official language is required, the audience, and the level of complexity of the communication. Language requirements and/or linguistic profile of the bilingual positions must be established objectively based on the functions of the position and not the current or future incumbent. If the modification is an upgrade from unilingual to bilingual, the justification is not required.
  • If you need guidance to determine the language requirements of the position, consult the Official Language section. You can also consult the Manager's guide before submitting a request to better understand the delegated manager's responsibility on Official Languages and to access useful links and tools.
