Project and Programme Management Practice (PPMP) for Small Projects

The PPMP is the business process for the successful delivery of projects and effective management of the project investment portfolio at ESDC. This process is an enhanced version of the Stage-GateTM process that was used in the past (prior to 2016). The purpose of the Project Programme Management Practice is to successfully deliver the solution and the benefits identified in the business case, within the defined budget, schedule and tolerance for risk.

Innovation begins with an idea and ends with realization of benefits. The steps between these points use a Stage-GateTM approach, which segments the project lifecycle into a series of activities (stages) and decision points (gates).

Stages are where the project team completes project work. This is where the focus of day to day project management must be.

Gates are points-in-time where decisions are made by the appropriate governance body to continue investing in the project, based on the information available at the time. The decisions are made based on agreed criteria. Gates occur at the end of project stages. Practicing effective project management during each stage will result in an efficient and successful gate review.
