If you are one of the many ESDC employees who are working off of the departmental network and outside of your usual workplace, then you know that finding creative, innovative and strategic ways of working may just be more important now than ever. Not only do we need to adapt to our new virtual workplaces, but we need to use new technologies to make the most of our time working from home.

Strategic and Analytical Thinking is a key ESDC learning priority and our employees continue to demonstrate their ability to think strategically as they quickly and effectively adapt to a new way of working. This week’s learning recommendations can help you to continue to strengthen your strategic thinking muscles by getting your creative juices pumping, and helping you to become your most innovative self.

Nothing breeds creativity and innovation like a brainstorming session with team members; be sure to share this bulletin with your colleagues so that you can get into the idea-generating headspace together!

Did You Know?

The Strategic and Analytical Thinking learning priority contains 4 main themes

This learning priority consists of the 4 methods and competencies, including:

  • Design Thinking,
  • Innovation,
  • Storytelling and
  • Achieving Results

With these week’s learning recommendations, you can challenge yourself to exercise all these critical abilities!

This week is Mental Health Week! Here’s a special message from ESDC’s Mental Health Champion, Janet Goulding:

“No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.""

John Donne

This quote has never rung more true than today. To all departmental employees, we may be islands for the time being, but we are strongly connected by invisible threads that keep us tethered to the mainland. Seek out one another if in need, and check in on each other to make sure we’re not drifting too far apart. I wish you all health and safety during this time.”

To read the full message from Associate Assistant Deputy Minister Janet Goulding, please refer to the Messages to employees external site.

You can participate in Mental Health Week by registering for one - or more! - Mental Health learning offerings. Check out Edition #5 of eLearning@ESDC for our Top 5 learning recommendations in support of the Workplace Well-being learning priority.

To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, all Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) classroom courses, events and other in-person programs have been suspended until further notice, including all registration for these activities.

The School is reviewing in-class learning to determine whether alternative delivery arrangements can be made and is continually updating and improving their learning offerings and systems to ensure that they are widely accessible to all public servants.
